Do students need to create an account or install an app?
No account, no app, no login. Students tap their name on a shared Chromebook by the door — or click a Google Classroom Quick Link on their own device. It works even when districts block student Google sign-in.
Does Hallwise work with Google Classroom?
Yes. Sign in with your school Google account and your classes sync automatically from Google Classroom. No CSV uploads, no manual roster entry, no setup calls.
How do student pair restrictions work?
Available on the School Plan. Teachers and admins can flag two students who shouldn't be in the hallway at the same time. When one has an active pass, the other is hard-blocked at the kiosk and told to ask their teacher. The warning also shows on the teacher dashboard so they can override if needed. Restrictions are school-wide — they apply regardless of which class either student is in.
What happens if a student forgets to sign back in?
Passes automatically close after 30 minutes. The dashboard flags the pass in red and marks it "may have forgotten to sign back in" — visible in real time without the teacher having to check manually.
How much does Hallwise cost?
$599/year per school — one flat price, any school size. Unlimited teachers, unlimited students, unlimited passes. No setup fee, no per-student calculations. If your enrollment grows mid-year, your price doesn't. Individual teachers can use the Solo plan for free. A 60-day free trial is included with no payment required.
What happens after the 60-day trial?
If you do nothing, your account drops to the free Solo plan — you never lose access entirely. To keep School Plan features (admin dashboard, pair restrictions, multiple teachers), you add a card and pay $599 for the year.
Can individual teachers use it free without involving IT or admin?
Yes. The Solo plan is free for a single teacher — no approval process, no IT ticket, no school email required. Just sign in with your Google account.
How does Hallwise handle student data and privacy?
We only collect what's needed to run the hall pass service — student names, class rosters, and pass records. We never sell student data or use it for advertising. Student data is deleted within 30 days of cancellation. We act as a school data processor under FERPA's school official exception and sign Data Processing Agreements on request.
